What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is a highly skilled nurse who has trained and been educated to a level higher than a Registered General Nurse.
A Nurse Practitioner works closely with the GPs to share and improve patient care.
A Nurse Practitioner can diagnose, treat and deal with all common ailments e.g. coughs, colds, sore throats, urine infections and most onset conditions like pain.  A Nurse Practitioner can prescribe and review medications in the same way as a GP.
If a Nurse Practitioner has concerns about your condition, she will refer you to one of the GPs at the Surgery or to an appropriate consultant at the hospital.
You may be offered an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner if you are requesting an urgent appointment for the same day.
